Youth Group
We aim to promote the development of young asylum seekers and refugees as individuals by providing a safe environment for them to interact with each other and a range of activities encouraging communication, confidence and integration.
The youth group is aimed at young people aged 11 - 21 years of age to have fun, make friends, improve their communication skills by taking part in discussion groups/future activities of the group and build their confidence and self-esteem by becoming involved in projects, activities and trips.
CRMC’s Youth Group is called The Jigsaw group and is based at Hillfields Youth Centre, Yardley Street, Coventry. The venue is a purpose built youth centre with indoor and outdoor sports facilities, a TV/sports room with playstation and has full cooking facilities. The group meets on Wednesdays from 6.30-8.30.
The group is run by Matt (Children’s Society) and Karen (Warwick Wildlife Trust) and they have recently visited Birmingham to meet other youth groups and have also made visits to London. They have taken guitar lessons and also made a CD, a radio advert for the group. They were proud to be selected to sing at a ‘Green” festival in Coventry. Activities have also included bowling, lazerquest, pool and table tennis. What is pleasantly surprising is their engagement and committment around future activities, with suggestions for an alternative venue to open up the chance to do more sports and even requesting a homework club.

Every Wednesday at 5.30pm – 8.30pm.
Venue: Hillfields Young People’s Centre 38 Yardley St, Coventry CV1 5JN
Strong Voices Strong Lives is a new project supporting unaccompanied asylum seeking children in Birmingham and Coventry. Funded by the Big Lottery and in partnership with the Refugee Centre in Coventry we are using a variety of individual, group and volunteer support to improve physical, emotional and social well-being for young asylum seekers.
We would like to invite you to take up a place at our launch event where you will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about the work already taking place
- Meet young people already receiving services from the project
- Find out how you can refer young people to the service and contribute to the project’s development
- Have your say in what you think the needs of young asylum seekers are and how the project can help
- Network with other professionals
- Meet young asylum seekers and hear what they have to say
We will be providing afternoon tea during which you will have the opportunity to network. In return we would value your contribution to help us make Strong Voices Strong Lives a service responsive to the needs of young people.
To book one of the limited places at this event please reply via email with your name, organisation, role and contact details to anna.munro@childrenssociety.org.uk
We look forward to welcoming you.
