Ms X's story
Ms X from Eritrea was brought to the UK by a foreign family to work as a domestic servant and was subsequently abused and made pregnant by the man of the family. The wife beat her so badly that she now has serious and ongoing urinary incontinence problems. Unable to claim any UK benefits or support she was referred to us with only the clothes she stood up in.
Homeless and destitute we supported her with monies from the Hope Destitution Fund, this help allowed her to buy the things necessary for her incontinence needs and to make a small contribution to her upkeep in those households who were kindly able to offer her successive short periods of shelter.
We helped with two representations for Section 4 support which were refused, during this six month period the Hope Destitution Fund was her only access to the most minimal of financial support. A third request was finally granted and Ms X now has the financial support she needs and she has recently been granted leave to remain in this country.
