Welcome to the Coventry Refugee Centre website.

The Coventry Refugee Centre opened in April 2000, originally staffed entirely by volunteers. It now has 40 paid workers and serves asylum seekers and refugees originating from over 87 countries.

The Centre provides essential information and practical help to thousands of refugees and asylum seekers in the Coventry area. Many of the clients have only a limited command of English, so the Centre offers help with dealing with the appropriate agencies, organisations and service providers.  The centre has a number of rooms available for hire to outside organisations.

We are also expanding our service to provide support to EU citizens and are currently recruiting EU volunteers.

Our new Immigration Team is due to start in September (subject to confirmation) and we also provide a Translation service.

The work of the Centre falls into two main categories:

  • help for asylum seekers in the many problems they face with subsistence, housing, health, racial harassment etc.  We also provide training on Asylum and Immigration issues to other professionals.

  • help to set up home for those given leave to remain.
